Readers’ Choice picks are in

Print, online voting yields readers’ favorites from across the Valley

TERRE HAUTE — It’s election time again — and the votes have been counted!

No, I’m not talking about the upcoming Indiana primary election on May 6, but instead, the Tribune-Star’s annual Readers’ Choice results. This is the fifth year we’ve asked our readers to vote for their favorites. Once again, we had an overwhelming response with thousands of votes from ballots posted online at and published in the newspaper.

Voters designated their favorites on everything from hamburgers to bosses, sales people to pet groomers. Our survey, which covered a multitude of offerings in the Wabash Valley, shows what our readers like.

Inside today’s paper is our special section listing the winners, many of whom featured their employees in photos and included a thank-you to their customers for casting the winning votes. The section is fun and includes many pictures of local people who work in some of the most customer-friendly, knowledgeable businesses around.

Numerous businesses are repeat Readers’ Choice favorites, a testament to the professional, courtesy service they provide. The awards are coveted and competitive — some business owners remind their satisfied customers to vote for them when balloting opens.

Now, as a pollster, I must let you know that the voting is not scientific and has a margin of error of about 99.9 percent. But, we counted your votes, and those businesses with the highest totals are hereby proclaimed the Readers’ Choice winners for 2014.

Each winner has been presented with a plaque for display inside his or her business, and this year, we gave winners a window cling to let their customers and the public know of their “preferred” status.

I want to thank our readers who voted, and I want to congratulate the winners on being chosen the Readers’ Choice for this year. Your hard work and service to customers have paid off.

I hope you will enjoy looking through the section to see who the participating readers selected as their favorites. Check to see if the businesses you frequent are among the Valley’s favorites!
