Brief, widespread power outage snarling traffic

TERRE HAUTE — A single vehicle struck a utility pole at 13th and Voorhees streets, causing a widespread power outage in Terre Haute this morning. The crash occurred at about 8:30 a.m., the Vigo County Sheriff¹s Department reports.

Duke Energy reports about 1,468 customers near Indiana 150 and U.S. 40, including customers in West Terre Haute, were affected.

Motorists are encouraged to take caution as roads are wet and slippery, and many traffic stoplights have been affected. Duke Energy reports it expects to have all power restored by 11 a.m.

The impacted area is from East Margaret Avenue to the north, and south to East Marley Drive. Traffic signals throughout that region have been impacted and motorists are encouraged to treat intersections as four-way stops until signals are repaired.

Another 486 electrical customers were impacted from multiple outages from South Fagin Street south to East Gross Road.
