Ernie Pyle World War II Museum open on Veterans Day

DANA —

The Ernie Pyle World War II Museum in downtown Dana will be open on Veterans Day, this Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Veterans will be admitted to the museum free of charge. There will be door prizes throughout the day and refreshments will be served.

The facility, formerly the Ernie Pyle State Historic Site, consists of the home in which Pyle was born and a museum featuring the famed journalist’s years as a war correspondent during World War II. Pyle was killed in the summer of 1945 by a machine-gunner’s bullet on Ie Shima, a small island near Okinawa in the South Pacific.

The museum is now operated by the Friends of Ernie Pyle, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Pyle’s legacy as a war correspondent in his hometown and beyond. Dana is located at the intersection of U.S. 36 and Indiana 71 in Vermillion County.
