A Terre Haute man faces multiple felony charges on suspicion of confining a woman and setting fire to her residence.
Jeremy Hatfield, 29, appeared via video in Vigo Superior Court 6 on Wednesday where Judge Michael Lewis found probable cause for his arrest on charges of burglary, arson, strangulation, criminal confinement, intimidation and domestic battery.
Hatfield was also wanted on an unrelated warrant for dealing a substance represented to be a controlled substance and a warrant for failure to appear in court.
In reading the accusations filed against Hatfield, Lewis said the alleged victim reported that Hatfield choked her on March 18, and that he later broke into her home and set fire to the structure on Sunday. The charges also alleged that Hatfield confined the victim in her home for several days, threatening to kill her and burn her house down, while also battering her.
Lewis set a Sept. 9 trial date in the case, with an Aug. 21 pretrial date.
A public defender was appointed to handle the case. Hatfield is being held in the Vigo County Jail with bail st at $125,000.
