Killer convicted in Hollandsburg Valentine's Day Massacre dies

Drollinger found dead in cell

CARLISLE — Parke County Indiana convicted multiple murderer Roger Clay Drollinger died in his cell this morning at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility. Custody staff found Drollinger unresponsive as breakfast was being delivered around 6:45 a.m. today, Jan. 29. Revival attempts were unsuccessful. Internal Affairs investigators do not suspect foul play in the death of Drollinger, 61. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. Drollinger was housed in a WVCF single cell restrictive status housing unit at the maximum-security facility.

Drollinger was serving four life sentences for the February 14, 1977, shotgun slayings of Gregory Brooks, Ralph Spencer, Raymond Spencer and Reeve Spencer. The only survivor of the so-called Hollandsburg Valentine's Day Massacre was the victims’ mother, Betty Jane Spencer. Spencer testified against Drollinger and three accomplices, linking Drollinger as the ringleader. Spencer passed away in 2004.

Accomplices Daniel Stonebraker, Michael Wright and David Smith continue to serve life sentences at the Pendleton Correction Facility for their roles in the execution style homicides at the rural Parke County home of Spencer.
