TERRE HAUTE —
Three motorists injured in a nearly-head-on collision Monday morning in eastern Vigo County were in fair or good condition Tuesday evening in an Indianapolis hospital.
Methodist Hospital reported that Judith G. Elsey, 74, of Terre Haute and Ronald R. Rodgers, 74, were both in good condition, while Zelma Rodgers, 73, was in fair condition.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department reported Monday that Elsey was driving east on U.S. 40 in Seelyville when her vehicle crossed the center line for unknown reasons and collided nearly head-on with a vehicle driven by Ronald Rogers of Knightsville.
Elsey, who was airlifted to Methodist Hospital, received leg injuries in the crash, according to the sheriff’s department.
Ronald Rodgers suffered hip and shoulder injuries, while Zelma Rodgers received chest injuries, police reported. The Rodgerses were first taken to Union Hospital and later transported to Methodist.
Because of the severity of the crash, both drivers had to be extricated by the Seelyville and Riley fire departments.
The sheriff’s department reported that drugs and alcohol were not suspected as playing a role in the crash.
