ISP arrest nets counterfeit credit, gift cards

An Indianapolis man was arrested on Interstate 70 Tuesday after police found he was carrying about two dozen counterfeit credit and gift cards.

The Indiana State Police said Halton Kai, 20, of Indianapolis, was headed westbound at about the 39-mile marker when he was stopped for a license plate violation in Putnam County about noon.

When asked for his driver’s license, Kai allegedly handed over a license under another person’s name, according to police. Kai was then acting nervous and was “untruthful in his conversations,” according to police.

Trooper Yan Dravigne received consent to search Kai’s 2007 Chevrolet Impala and found several counterfeit gift and credit cards in the passenger compartment, according to an ISP news release issued Tuesday evening.

Kai was arrested and is facing allegations of forgery, a class-C felony, counterfeiting, a class-D felony, driving while suspended and false informing, both misdemeanors. He was taken to the Putnam County Jail.
