Car backing out of driveway gets hit; driver arrested on unrelated drug charges

BRAZIL — A two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon resulted in the arrest of a Vermillion County woman on drug charges.

The Indiana State Police, in a news release issued Wednesday, said Kacie N. Robertson, 24, of Dana, was backing a 2001 Ford Taurus out of a driveway at a home on North Indiana 59 in Clay County when she pulled into the path of another vehicle, a northbound 2007 Chrysler SUV driven by Alysia Chase, 22, of Brazil.

The Chase vehicle struck the Robertson vehicle on the passenger side. No injuries were reported, but two children were riding in the Chase vehicle. They were in child safety seats at the time of the crash and did not receive serious injuries, according to an Indiana State Police news release. They were examined by emergency medical personnel at the scene, according to the release.

While investigating the crash, which took place about 2:25 p.m., state police found that Robertson was wanted on a Vigo County warrant for controlled substance violations. She was also found to be operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license or auto insurance, according to police. Robertson was also cited for failure to yield the right-of-way and driving while suspended (prior). She was taken to the Vigo County jail.

In the wake of the collision, ISP reminded motorists that “child restraint seats play a vital role in motor vehicle safety for young children. Under Indiana law, children under age eight must be in an approved child safety seat at all times while riding in a motor vehicle.”
