TERRE HAUTE —
Jane Nichols of Terre Haute will serve as the new executive director of the Vigo County Education Foundation effective July 1, the board of directors has announced.
She has served as the executive assistant at the VCEF for the past three years and has guided the administration and oversight of grant programs between the VCEF and Vigo County School Corp. staff.
“I’m thrilled to move into this next phase,” she said.
She has worked closely with teacher grant recipients and foundation board members to provide enhanced learning opportunities for students.
“I care deeply about the children of Vigo County and their successes in both the classroom and in life, and I believe the VCEF plays an intrinsic role in that success,” Nichols said. “I believe in our mission and the value of an excellent public education. I understand the challenges our teachers and schools face today and the difference that VCEF funding makes.”
Nichols is a graduate of Indiana University, School of Public and Environmental Affairs, with a degree in policy and administration. She has served the Terre Haute community in many organizations including Terre Haute North Booster Club, PTA, Maple Avenue Methodist Church and the League of Terre Haute. She and her husband, John, are the parent of two daughters.
Jenny Thomas, current executive director, is retiring after serving 14 years with the foundation. “I’m going to miss it tremendously,” she said.
She told the VCEF board she’s taken it from its infancy to where it is today. “Now, it’s time for someone else with new ideas and fresh energy to take it to a new level,” she said.
Thomas said she will continue to volunteer with the foundation. “I’ve certainly not lost my interest or enthusiasm. I’m not going anywhere.”
