Volunteers needed for Day of Action

TERRE HAUTE — The United Way of the Wabash Valley is seeking volunteers to register for its annual Day of Action on June 13, according to a news release from the agency,

Registration is open to any interested individual, family, business or organization. The sponsor for the event is Elanco.

All volunteers are invited to an appreciation breakfast at 7:30 a.m. that day in the Zorah Shrine Temple at Seventh and Chestnut streets. After breakfast, volunteers will dismiss to their assigned projects.

(Jobs available as of Monday)

• Catholic Charities of Terre Haute/Ryves Youth Center — Update & repair computers. Volunteers will perform general organization and cleaning. This job requires a $10 background check, volunteer application, a signed Code of Conduct and successful completion of “Safe and Sacred Child Protection,” an online course that takes about 10 minutes to complete. Volunteers needed: Unlimited

• Catholic Charities of Terre Haute/Christmas Store — Sort, fold, store and shelve items for the Christmas House. This job requires a $10 background check, volunteer application, a signed Code of Conduct and successful completion of “Safe and Sacred Child Protection,” an online course that takes about 10 minutes to complete. Volunteers needed: Nine

• Catholic Charities/Bethany House Clothes Closet — Sort, fold and shelve donated goods. This job requires a $10 background check, volunteer application, a signed Code of Conduct and successful completion of “Safe and Sacred Child Protection,” an online course that takes about 10 minutes to complete. Volunteers needed: Six

• Chances and Services for Youth — Clean and seal the parking lot.

Volunteers Needed: 10

• Child Adults Resource Services — Prepare ground and plant flowers along front and side of facility. Volunteers will be working alongside adults with disabilities.

Volunteers needed: Four or more

• Clay County Senior Center — Clean carpets and wash windows on inside and outside.

Volunteers needed: Two positions left

• Families by Choice/Deborah’s House — (Transitional housing for single mothers and their young children.) Plant plants in yard and landscape beds, clean up yard, pull weeds, etc. Wash front of house and porches. Please note: They do NOT have access to yard tools such as rakes, shovels and tree trimmers. Volunteers will need to bring those supplies.

Volunteers needed: Four positions left

• Mental Health America of Vigo County — Clean Sweep. Organize various items that have been donated to our supportive housing program. Need to be able to lift 15-pound items. Ability to bend and reach.

Volunteers needed: Three or four

• Terre Haute Humane Society — Volunteers will perform landscaping and general yard cleanup. If raining, volunteers will assemble adoption packets.

Volunteers needed: Five positions

• Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department — Invasive species removal, garden weeding and trash pickup.

Volunteers needed: Unlimited

• Wabash Valley Senior Center — Purge old files in cabinets on second floor and haul downstairs to be destroyed.  

Volunteers needed: Two to three
