Man who attacked Vigo deputy arrested

TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute man accused of attacking a Vigo County sheriff’s deputy earlier this week is facing felony charges in the Vigo County jail.

Indiana State Police arrested Keenan James Harris, 36, of Terre Haute as soon as he was released from an Indianapolis hospital where he was treated for injuries he received in the altercation with the deputy.

Harris was taken to the Vigo County jail where he is facing allegations of resisting law enforcement, operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of more than .15 endangering a person and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of more than .15, all class-D felonies. He is also facing several misdemeanor allegations.

Harris’ bond was set at $25,000 with no 10 percent allowed, according to an ISP news release issued Thursday evening. The Vigo County Prosecutor’s office reviewed the case and recommended the preliminary charges, said Sgt. Joe Watts of the Indiana State Police.

Harris was originally arrested Tuesday after his pickup truck nearly struck a fully-marked Vigo County Sheriff’s Department vehicle being driven by Deputy Brent Hall. Hall stopped Harris’ pickup truck on Lafayette Avenue but Harris ran from the scene only to then charge Hall. Harris received a head injury in that incident and was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in satisfactory condition. Harris’ blood alcohol content was .29, according to police. Hall received a minor hand injury in the incident, police said.
