TERRE HAUTE —
Fifty-eight-year-old Cynthia J. Davis has been identified as the woman found dead Oct. 19 under a bridge in northwestern Vigo County.
The Indiana State Police and the Vigo County Corner’s Office have positively identified Davis using DNA testing at the Indiana State Police laboratory.
Vigo County Coroner Dr. Susan Amos had previously listed her cause of death as strangulation.
At the same time that Davis’ body was found, police also found the remains of Nevelland A. Thompson, 76, of the 2300 block of Tippecanoe Street in Terre Haute. A cause of death for Thompson is pending, with the manner of death for Thompson pending as well.
Toxicology results are pending on both Davis and Thompson and could take two to four weeks. The ISP investigation continues, but there is no evidence to suggest a third party was involved in either death.
Both bodies were found under a private lane bridge near the 7400 block of West Pennington Road.
According to an ISP news release, Davis was reported missing to the Terre Haute Police Department by her family on Oct. 16. Thompson was reported missing to THPD on Oct. 12. The last date he was seen was Oct. 10.
Police have said that Thompson and Davis were reportedly in a relationship at the time of their death.
The investigation is continuing, and anyone with information about the case can call ISP Detective Tony Guinn at 765-653-4114.
