TERRE HAUTE —
DNA testing will be used to confirm the identity of a woman found dead Oct. 19 under a bridge in northwestern Vigo County.
Identification through fingerprints has been unsuccessful, Vigo County Coroner Dr. Susan Amos told the Tribune-Star on Friday. A DNA sample has been provided from a presumptive family member, Dr. Amos said, and the testing to determine if it is a match to the woman could take three weeks to receive a result.
The woman’s body was found along with the body of Nevelland A. Thompson Jr., 76, of Terre Haute, who was reportedly last seen on Oct. 10. The investigation into the cause and manner of his death continues. The woman’s death has been ruled a homicide due to strangulation.
The body of Thompson and the woman were found near Thompson’s vehicle parked under a private road bridge in the 7400 block of West Pennington Road on Oct. 19. The Indiana State Police are investigating their deaths, and believe there is no threat to the public.
