ISU police identify man in suspicious activity

TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State University Police have identified a man suspected of approaching female students in recent weeks and offering them rides in his vehicle.

University police said they stopped Dominick Iacobazzi, 65, Terre Haute, at about 4:10 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of Maple Avenue while he was driving a gold sedan. He was arrested on a charge of driving while suspended, and he was served with a trespass warning to stay away from all university property, ISU police Chief William Mercier said.

Information was provided to police by an individual who recognized a description of the man from recent news releases and instant message alerts to ISU students and staff.

According to ISU police, Iacobazzi is the registered owner of both a red minivan and a gold, four-door sedan that reportedly match the descriptions of vehicles used in recent incidents in which students were offered rides.

Students involved in three incidents also have positively identified Iacobazzi, Mercier said, adding that there is no indication Iacobazzi was involved in two other recent incidents: the attempted abduction of a male student on Aug. 30 and the Sept. 6 assault of a male student who was approached by a stranger in a vehicle. Those incidents remain under investigation.

Police remind students to report any actions that might seem threatening and to refuse rides offered by strangers.

Records show that Iacobazzi was convicted of child molesting in Daviess County in 1992, Mercier sai
