No identity yet on man’s body found downstream

The Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE — The body of a man found Monday night floating in the Wabash River near Mount Carmel, Ill., has not yet been identified.

Wabash County, Ill., Coroner Larry Hodgson told the Tribune-Star that an autopsy has been performed at Vincennes, but results will not be released until a positive identification of the body can be made. That will likely occur early next week, he said.

Hodgson said he is hopeful the identification can be confirmed by dental records.

According to the Evansville Courier & Press, Wabash County Sheriff Joe Keeling said an individual at a river camp near the small community of Patton spotted the body and alerted authorities.

The discovery of the body comes weeks after a Greene County man went missing after a witness reported seeing him in the Wabash River south of Vincennes. Shane R. Porter, 37, of Dugger was last seen Feb. 8.

Hodgson declined to speculate on whether the body could be Porter.
