A Sullivan County woman was in critical condition Saturday after a shooting that investigators believe happened during a domestic argument at her home near Carlisle, police said.
The victim, who police identified as Joann Sue Pierce, 37, of Carlisle, was found in a side yard of the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Indiana State Police.
Pierce was taken to Sullivan County Community Hospital and later flown by Lifeline Air Ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, police said.
Police arrested Adam Keith Bales, 32, of Carlisle, who lived in the same residence as the victim, authorities said.
Bales is facing preliminary charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery and criminal confinement and is being detained in the Sullivan County Jail with no bond, Indiana State Police said.
At 6:30 a.m. Saturday, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a residence on the 1200 block of West County Road 650 South, near the town of Carlisle, reporting a shooting.
The 911 call was made by Bales, police said. Deputies Bill Snead and David Holmes responded and found the victim.
The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released at a later time, police said.
