TERRE HAUTE —
A train was just two miles away when a Terre Haute woman’s car wound up upside-down on the tracks after she lost control of the vehicle on a slick road this morning.
The woman, 28, was headed south on Houseman Street just north of Springhill Drive when her car left the roadway and traveled down an embankment before overturning and coming to a stop on CSX railroad tracks. She was not injured and was removed from the vehicle by emergency responders.
The incident was “100 percent weather-related,” said a Vigo County Sheriff’s Department official on the scene. A light snow covered the roadway at the time of the crash.
Police were able to get a northbound train stopped, just two miles away from the accident, he said.
The Riley Fire Department, Honey Creek Fire Department and Vigo County Sheriff’s Department all responded to the crash. Houseman Street was temporarily closed in both directions because of the accident, which took place about 9 a.m.
