A Paris, Ill., resident died in a single-vehicle crash Saturday in Champaign, Ill., police said.
Mikela K. Washburn, 18, was the passenger of a 1999 Dodge Stratus driven by 20-year-old Alexander J. Morton, of Harrisburg, Penn., police said.
Both driver and passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle and transported to the hospital, authorities said.
The vehicle was entering Interstate 57, northbound from Interstate 74 when the driver lost control of the vehicle as it traveled over ice at a high rate of speed, according to the Illinois State Police.
It traveled sideways until coming to rest against a utility pole, police said.
Morton was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
