Man struck by car remains in Indianapolis hospital

TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute man remained in an Indianapolis hospital on Tuesday after being struck by a car on Maple Avenue near 15th street just before 8 p.m. Monday.

Raymond Olmi, 43, was transported to Union Hospital in Terre Haute and then airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he remained in the neurocritical care unit with a head injury.

Terre Haute Police report that a vehicle driven by Diana Eddy, 60, of Terre Haute, was westbound on Maple Avenue when Olmi stepped off a curb on the south side of the road and crossed the street, putting up his right hand toward traffic.

A witness told police that Eddy’s vehicle did not have enough time to stop when Olmi stepped in front of it. He was struck by the front bumper and rolled over the windshield, landing on the north curb.

Another man at the scene said he believed that Olmi was trying to stop traffic so that a truck and trailer could be backed up into the road from a nearby business.

Eddy was not injured. Police issued no citations.
