TERRE HAUTE —
An autopsy is pending on a woman whose body was discovered along the CSX railroad tracks north of Davis Drive near South 20th Street.
Chief Deputy Clark Cottom of the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department told the Tribune-Star that the body was found early today, and initial indications are that the woman had been hit by a train.
“There are no obvious signs of foul play,” Cottom said.
Police found a makeshift bed and some personal items in the area, he said, when asked if the woman was considered homeless. However, investigators had not yet confirmed that those items belonged to the dead woman.
The name of the woman is being withheld pending confirmation of her identity and notification of her next of kin. The woman was carrying identification, Cottom said, which could make it easier to locate family members.
More information will be provided as it becomes available. Return to www.tribstar.com for updates and see Wednesday’s Tribune-Star for a full story.
