Recycle your holiday waste

TERRE HAUTE — Recycling of live Christmas trees and holiday waste will be provided, thanks to a collaborative effort among the city and county parks departments, the mayor’s office, TREES Inc. and Republic Services. The Christmas trees will be recycled into mulch for use in public parks. The trees must be free of tinsel, decorations and any other non-natural ornaments. Artificial trees will not be accepted.

Republic Services will provide recycling receptacles for paper, plastic, aluminum and cardboard at the tree dropoff sites: Dobbs Park, Rea Park and Fowler Park. Recycling will be available from 8:10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday and again on Jan. 4.

Another recycling option, the Indiana State University Recycle Center, previously announced it would have limited hours during the university’s winter break. The ISU Recycling Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Friday and on Dec. 31. Normal hours will resume on Jan. 2.

Wabash Valley Goodwill Industries also recycles at its 2702 S. Third St. location in Terre Haute. Holiday hours for Goodwill recycling, according to its website, are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Dec. 31 and noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 1.
