19-year-old facing battery, neglect charge

TERRE HAUTE — A 19-year-old Greencastle man was arrested Thursday afternoon on suspicion of allegedly physically mistreating a 3-year-old boy, according to Indiana State Police.

Donald Leitner was arrested on charges of battery resulting in bodily injury and neglect of a dependent. Both are class-D felonies.

He remained in Putnam County Jail with no bond. The arrest occurred after a nearly month-long investigation.

In early November, the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post was contacted by the Putnam County Department of Child Services requesting assistance with allegations of abuse involving a 3-year-old boy.

During the ISP investigation, detectives uncovered information that led them to believe that on more than one occasion over the last few months, Leitner allegedly squeezed the genital area of the young boy in response to the boy’s numerous accidental urinations. The victim sustained pain and bruising as a result and was medically treated and released.

The case was investigated by ISP Detective Brian Maudlin with assistance from ISP Detective First Sgt. Jeff Hearon and the Putnam County DCS.
