Clay County man facing allegations of sexual misconduct

BRAZIL — A Clay County man is behind bars after police arrested him on allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor.

Indiana State Police arrested James S. Morris, 67, of Brazil on allegations of child molestation and vicarious sexual gratification, both C-felonies. He is also accused of dissemination of matter harmful to minors and child solicitation, D-felonies.

The alleged victim in the case was a young girl who was a relative of Morris’ at the time, according to the state police. Morris is being detained at the Clay County Jail.

The ISP investigation started one week ago after the Indiana Department of Child Services in Putnam County contacted the Putnamville State Police Post for help with a child molestation case, according to an ISP news release issued Thursday evening.

Through their investigation, ISP detectives believe that, on more than one occasion beginning when the girl was age 5 and until she reached age 10, Morris fondled her, forced her to perform sexual acts on him and provided her with pornographic images of various kinds via computer. The alleged incidents took place at Morris’ home, according to police.

The case was investigated by ISP Detectives First Sgt. Jeff Hearon, Sam Stearley and Chris Carter. Assisting were the Indiana Department of Child Services of Putnam County and Susie’s Place Child Advocacy Center of Avon.
