TERRE HAUTE —
Emergency responders worked for more than 30 minutes to free a Terre Haute woman from her badly-damaged vehicle after she crashed her car Tuesday afternoon on Bono Road in southern Vigo County.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, in a news release, said Margit S. Treiber, 85, told deputies she fell asleep at the wheel and drove off the roadway about 3 p.m. Her car ended up in a ditch on a sharp incline on the north side of Bono Road just north of Oregon Church Road.
Treiber complained of knee and rib pain and was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for further evaluation. Her injuries did not appear life-threatening. Her car hit a tree head-on and Chief Deputy Clark Cottom credited a seat belt and airbags with preventing more serious injuries.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, Pierson Township Fire and Riley Fire all responded to the crash and worked to free Treiber from her vehicle.
