Icy road conditions led to a single-vehicle crash in southern Greene County early Saturday in which a driver and passenger were trapped by fallen power lines.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department, in a news release, stated Harold Hughes, 37, of Owensburg, hit severe ice on the roadway at East Wright Road/South Helton Lane in Owensburg about 12:50 a.m. Hughes’ vehicle struck a county road sign and a utility pole in the crash, in which it slid down a hill and spun around.
Hughes and a passenger were trapped inside the Dodge Dakota pickup, because of multiple power lines resting on the vehicle, according to the release. They were able to exit the vehicle uninjured after REMC utility employees removed the power lines, according to police.
Agencies responding to the crash included the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Owensburg Fire, REMC and the Greene County Highway Department.
