Plexanne Lewis
Plexanne Lewis, 78, of Terre Haute, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, in Cobblestone Crossing Health Campus. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She was born April 2, 1931, to Clayton A. “Stumpy” Alexander and Hazel Bettis Alexander.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Jordan D. Lewis; six children, Jordan D. Lewis III and his wife Jylmarie of Tampa, Fla., Richard S. Lewis and his wife Jennifer of Clinton, Susan K. Lewis Stokes and her husband Tom of Fond du Lac, Wis., Michael J. Lewis and his wife Christine of West Terre Haute, Elizabeth “Libby” Lewis and her husband Carroll Smeltzer of Terre Haute, and Kathryn “Kathy” Lewis of Terre Haute; and 12 grandchildren, Kelsey Stokes, Jessica Davis, Lindsey Davis, Leslie Davis, Jordan Stokes, Jordan Lewis IV, Kirsten Lewis, John Krumreich, Petr Rodway, Alexandra Lewis, Samantha Lewis and Jacob Lewis.
Plexanne was a 1949 graduate of Wiley High School, and received her bachelor’s degree (1953) and master’s degree (1982), both from Indiana State University. She was a past director of the Infant and Toddler Center at Indiana State University. She was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church, and was very active at the former Washington Avenue Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder and Sunday school teacher. She was a member and past president of Tri Kappa, a member of Chi Omega, where she was active with their alumni chapter, was a member of Law Wives, and had served on the board of directors of YMCA. She also was a member of Badoura Temple 23 Daughters of the Nile, and was a recipient of the Strawberry Hill Cannoneers Molly Pitcher Award.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Linda Jo Peters officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
