Valley band to play in Nashville

Blue News to play event in front of industry executives

Special to the Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE The band Blue News will play a showcase in front of music industry representatives Friday in the Soundcheck Rehearsal Studios at Nashville, Tenn.

Soundcheck was created by singer and guitarist Glenn Frey of The Eagles in 1992, and it is now the largest rehearsal studio complex in the world under one roof. Soundcheck is recognized as the rehearsal venue of choice by many top touring and recording acts, and it provided the backline production for the 2009 CMA’s. The band will play a three- to four-song audition for representatives from Band With A Mission — a company contracted by a number of different record labels to find their next artists.

During the trip to Music City, Blue News also will play a live show at Café Coco at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Blue News began in 2006, when the band’s debut album was released by Statue Records Group of Hollywood. Since then, band members have expanded their audience with a repertoire featuring various musical genres. Two of their songs received national television exposure through the series “Roadtrip Nation” in 2007. Blue News also received an invitation to record at Full Sail University in Orlando, Fla.

The lineup includes singer, songwriter and guitarist Brent Orndorff; guitarist and backing singer Reggie Raisner, who also toured and shared the stage with several big-name bands such as Nickelback, Hinder and Urge Overkill; and drummer Dustin Richardson, a 20-year-old prodigy and a longtime student-turned-teacher at Terre Haute’s Conservatory of Music.

The band’s latest album is a 13-track LP, “Strange Light.” Downloads and CDs are available online or by calling 1-800-Buy-My-CD. This is the first full-length album recorded and produced entirely in the band’s own state-of-the-art digital studio and self-released by Orndorff’s independent record label, Blame Records.
