Discussion regarding the proposed Collett Park Vicinity Plan will have to wait until Friday, as a Wednesday evening meeting on the plan was postponed because of the lack of a quorum.
The Area Plan Commission for Vigo County was scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the County Annex, and among the agenda items was a resolution to adopt a comprehensive neighborhood plan for the Collett Park area.
However, the 14-member board was one short of a quorum and executive director Jeremy Weir asked those in the audience if anyone had a problem with rescheduling to 2 p.m. Friday in the same location.
Only six members of the public were in the audience and none voiced concern regarding Collett Park, one man noting he’d come for a different agenda item, anyway.
Board member Norm Froderman offered a motion to move the meeting to Friday, seconded by Vigo County Commissioner David Decker.
Weir said he doesn’t anticipate much opposition to the plan’s passing.
“We’ve had wonderful attendance about Collett Park,” he said of three previous public input meetings. “I think that there’s support for the plan.”
Weir said if the plan is approved by the commission, it will next be reviewed by the city’s legal department before going before Terre Haute’s City Council some time next month.
“They can either do it in a special session or a regular monthly meeting,” he said, noting that discussion in favor or opposition to the plan between now and then probably will be the deciding factor on a date.
Weir said he expects considerably more people to attend the City Council meetings.
“It’s a policy guide. It’s not regulation or law,” he said of the proposed plan, which is available online at www.vigocounty.org under the plan commission’s department.
Weir said interested individuals can either check the plan online or call his office at (812) 462-3354.
