Indiana blood supply hits critical shortage level

Indiana Blood Center supply has hit a critical shortage. Blood types in need are O positive, O negative and A negative. All Hoosiers, no matter the blood type, are urged to donate in the next 48 hours to stabilize the supply in Indiana before thousands of race fans pour into the state for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
“The influx of visitors this weekend makes the need to bolster the state’s blood supply all the more urgent,” said Mike Parejko, COO of Indiana Blood Center. “We absolutely must have the units on hand and in Indiana hospitals to treat trauma and accident cases because medical emergencies are never planned.”
Donors should visit any of the 13 statewide Indiana Blood Center locations.
The Terre Haute branch is at 2021 S. Third St. A complete list of centers is available online at www.indianablood.org. Or, call 1-800-632-4722 for information on the nearest donation site or mobile collections bus.
