A 9-year-old Terre Haute boy remained in Methodist Hospital on Tuesday evening after a Sunday evening all-terrain vehicle crash on Front and South Lake roads near Interstate 70 west of the city.
The boy, whose name was not released Tuesday, was reportedly riding ATVs with another 9-year-old and their two fathers Sunday about 7:36 p.m. when he and the other boy “took off racing” and he struck a steel gate, according to an accident report issued by the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim was wearing a helmet, but suffered injuries to his face, leg and head, and he was taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital and then by Lifeline to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, according to the report.
The father was cited for allowing him to operate an ATV on a road.
According to a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department, the boy remained in stable condition Tuesday.
