Search continues for missing woman

Indiana Conservation Officers are searching for a missing woman last seen wading in the White River in Greene County.

Conservation officers used sonar and visual searches of the White River after Betty J. Carlton, 41, of Bloomfield, was reported missing on Sunday.

Carlton was seen Saturday on a bridge on Indiana 54 over the river about three miles west of Bloomfield, according to a media statement issued by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. She was last seen under the same bridge wading in waste-deep water, said Indiana Conservation Officer Max Winchell.

The sonar search for Carlton was discontinued because of rising and swift-moving water, Winchell said. Visual searches are continuing of an area up to 15 miles downstream, he said.

“We have no confirmation that she’s in” the river, Winchell noted.

The White River is above flood stage and has risen since Saturday, the DNR media statement said. The river was expected to crest Tuesday, the

statement noted.
