A Terre Haute man who was stabbed in an alleged domestic altercation, said he plans to hire his own defense attorney to handle three class-D felony charges against him.
Joseph D. Kennedy, 28, appeared in Vigo Superior Court Division 6 via video from the Vigo County Jail for his initial arraignment on charges of strangulation, criminal recklessness and domestic battery in the presence of a child.
Kennedy told Judge Michael Lewis that he plans to hire his own attorney, and the case was continued to July 20.
Kennedy was booked into the Vigo County Jail on Tuesday after being released from Union Hospital where he had been treated for stab wounds.
Terre Haute Police report that Kennedy was injured after he allegedly choked and battered a woman at a home in the 400 block of South 15th Street. Kennedy was a guest in the home, not a resident. The woman reportedly fought back, wounding Kennedy with a kitchen knife.
Police responding to the scene found Kennedy in his car. He collapsed and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
