Grace Ellen Roach Hoopingarner

MARSHALL, Ill. — Grace Ellen Roach Hoopingarner, 84, of Marshall, Ill. passed away at 10:17 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Burnsides Community Health Center in Marshall, Ill. She was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Sanford, Ind., the daughter of Preston “Pressley” Jackson Roach and Mamie Edith Montgomery Roach. She married James Walter Hoopingarner Sr. on July 9, 1940, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 2007.
Surviving are her children, James W. (Joyce) Hoopingarner Jr. of Marshall, Ill., Judith Jean (Charles) Stepp of Marshall, Ill., Dorothy Ellen Garner of West Union, William Dewey Hoopingarner of Marshall, Ill. and John Presley (Deborah) Hoopingarner of West Virginia; grandchildren, Rodney Glen Hoopingarner, Debra Elaine Washburn, Donald Lee Kirby Jr., Todd Wayne Kirby, Michael Dale Garner, Chad Wesley Hoopingarner, Tracey Lynn Hoopingarner, Amanda Leigh Hoopingarner, Candace Juanita Hoopingarner and Joshua Adam Hoopingarner; great-grandchildren, Joshua James Washburn, Christopher Joseph Washburn, Ayden Lee Kirby, James Frederick Garner, Philip Michael Garner and Alyssa Mae Garner; a great-great-grandchild, Kieran Joseph Washburn; a brother, Leroy “Dutch” Roach of Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Marion Dale Garner and Donald Lee Kirby Sr.; four brothers, Willard Roach, Harlan Roach, Lee Edward Roach and Charles Roach; and two sisters, Genevieve Presnell and Odessa Jean Roach.
She attended the Zion United Methodist Church of Marshall and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Services in honor of her life are 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Justin Snider officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday; 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday at Pearce Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Burnsides Community Heath Center.
