An Arkansas man was arrested following a one-car accident on Interstate 70 three miles east of Greenup, Ill., at 11:12 p.m. Tuesday.
Dejuan Echols, 18, Centerton, Ark., was taken to the Cumberland County Jail on preliminary charges of possession of cocaine, possession of paraphernalia, driving while intoxicated, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of firearm ammunition, no valid driver's license, improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He also was wanted on an unrelated court warrant.
Illinois State Police at District 12 report that Echols was driving an eastbound 1992 Accura when the car went off the interstate on the left and he overcorrected. The car slid across the highway and off the right side of the road, where it overturned.
Passenger Paul Davila, 23, Bentonville, Ark., was treated for minor injuries at St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham and released.
