A 12-year old boy in Shelburn in Sullivan County was seriously injured in an accident involving a school bus Thursday afternoon, police said.
Timothy J. Saude was flown to Indianapolis for treatment.
The accident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. at the corner of Washington and Maple streets in Shelburn, according to a news release by Indiana State Police.
The boy was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk parallel to Washington Street when the chain fell off his bike, according to State Police, which responded to the accident along with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department.
The boy was unable to stop the bike and ran into the side of a school bus that was turning the corner from Washington Street onto Maple Street. The bus’ rear tires then ran over the boy, police said.
The child first was taken to Sullivan County Hospital before his transfer to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was being treated for internal injuries and possible broken bones, police said.
