Parents getting city pool price break
Moms, dads who bring their kids will pay reduced admission

TERRE HAUTE —
Moms and dads will get a price break at public pools this summer, Parks Board members said at their regular meeting Wednesday afternoon.
The Terre Haute Parks and Recreation board passed a resolution that extends the promotional fee reduction at the recreation director’s discretion throughout the summer.
Recreation director Micah Gallion said that on “Moms’ Mondays” and “Fathers’ Fridays,” parents will pay a reduced admission price of $1.50 when bringing their children. Children will pay the regular child’s admission fee.
The regular fee is $3, according to the resolution.
“We’re just trying to get folks to the pools,” she said, noting that other promotional days will be spread “throughout the summer season.”
In other business, city planner Pat Martin told the board that work on the skate park is under way.
“Everything is moving along. There is no delay in the project,” Martin said about planning changes being made to keep costs in budget for phase one.
“This is a state-of-the-art skate park. There will be no other one like it in the state of Indiana,” Martin said, noting that once construction begins, work could take anywhere from 60 to 120 days, depending on weather conditions.
In other business, the board received a notice of tort claim (intent to sue) issued by Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos and Newlin on behalf of the parents of a 6-year-old girl who fractured her leg while using a slide at Deming Park.
The claim “seeks damages in an amount necessary to adequately compensate her,” according to the notice filed.
City attorney Chou-il Lee said the issue has been submitted to the city’s insurance company and they will work toward a resolution.
A Parks Department staff member said the ground below that slide wears down a little after repeated pounding, creating a slight dip.
Board president John L. Wright said the group “wants to err on the side of caution” and ensure that all equipment is maintained with safety in mind.
