Dana to receive recovery funds for projects

Indiana will receive more than $26 million in economic recovery funds through the U.S. Department of Agriculture to support rural water and environmental projects in four communities, including the Vermillion County town of Dana.

The Koontz Lake Regional Sewer District was awarded $14 million through USDA’s Water and Environmental Programs, while the towns of Carthage, Dana and Elnora also received support for water and waste management projects. In addition to enhancing these communities’ sanitation programs, the USDA estimates that these projects will create or save 444 jobs.

“Middle-class Hoosiers living in rural parts of Indiana will benefit from this funding and the jobs it will create,” U.S. Sen Evan Bayh said Friday in a news release. “These funds will help ensure that no part of our state goes without a clean, quality water supply or sanitary services.”

According to the USDA, the Water and Environmental Programs provide loans and grants for drinking water, sanitary sewer, solid waste and storm drainage facilities in rural areas and cities and towns of 10,000 or fewer people.

The total in funding is $26,186,600.
