Tommy Thornton resigned last Wednesday as a teacher and boys basketball coach at West Vigo High School.
He resigned “for personal reasons,” Superintendent Dan Tanoos said Monday. The resignation was effective immediately.
Tanoos said he could not comment further on Thornton’s abrupt departure.
Thornton taught machine trades at West Vigo High School. A substitute is now teaching Thornton’s classes and the job will be posted, Tanoos said. The school also will be looking for a new boys basketball coach, Tanoos said.
Thornton had been the boys basketball coach for three years. He also was a cross country coach.
Thornton could not immediately be reached for comment Monday.
