Two arrested in Sunday night raid

Special to the Tribune-Star

On Sunday evening, Indiana State Police troopers and members of the U.S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force arrested two men during a warrant service in southwestern Vigo County. Officers went to the residence attempting to locate a local fugitive and arrested a second man for assisting a criminal. The fugitive had been eluding law enforcement since March.

Parke Circuit Court had issued an arrest warrant for Bruce E. Thomas of Rosedale for probation violation of his original charge on manufacturing methamphetamine. In early April, the Indiana Department of Corrections Parole Division issued an arrest warrant for delinquent on parole against Thomas. A request was then made to the U.S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force and Indiana State Police for assistance in locating Thomas.

On Saturday, Clark County (Illinois) Sheriff’s Department stopped a vehicle on U.S. 40 near Marshall for a traffic violation. The male passenger then fled on foot with the deputy in pursuit. The deputy fell, fracturing a finger, and the suspect was able to escape. He was identified as Thomas.

The investigation continued and led officers to a residence on South Kenny Place in Terre Haute on Sunday evening. Members of the U.S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force and ISP troopers then arrested Thomas and Anthony Coveleskie, whose mother owned the residence.

Thomas, 33, was arrested for felony probation violation and felony delinquent on parole. Thomas was admitted to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for an anhydrous burn to his foot he suffered sometime prior to his arrest. Coveleskie, 34, of Terre Haute was arrested for assisting a criminal, a class-D felony, and incarcerated in the Vigo County jail.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force and troopers from the Indiana State Police Terre Haute District. They were assisted by the Clark County (Illinois) Sheriff’s Department.
