In an effort to support a variety of local animal shelters and animal programs, City Councilman Neil Garrison, along with the newly formed Vigo County Animal Coalition is hosting its first ever “1-K-9 Run & Walk” event. The Walk/Run will be conducted at Memorial Stadium on June 6. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. for both events, which will get under way at 10 a.m.
The VCAC is asking for corporate sponsors for a minimum contribution of $50. Contributions will include sponsorship mention on T-shirts (given out to participants) as well as flyers that will be used for promotion.
The competitive run will consist of one individual and his/her dog. The run will have three divisions: adult men, adult women and all youth 17 years of age and under. Trophies will be awarded to the first- and second-place winners in each division. The three mile walk will take place at the same time on the Indiana Mile trail. The entry fee is $15 per participant.
Proceeds will benefit the following not-for-profit animal organizations: Terre Haute Humane Society, Harmony Haven, Spay-Neuter League and Project HOPE (Halting the Overpopulation of Pets without Euthanasia).
The Vigo County Animal Coalition is an umbrella organization formed in 2007 to promote the well-being of animals in Vigo County. The organization’s goals are to improve public awareness of animal issues, improve communication among member organizations, improve visibility of member organizations and ensure sustainable improvement in conditions for animals in Vigo County.
Corporate sponsorship contributions of $50 can be mailed to VCAC, P.O. Box 2132, Terre Haute, IN, 47802, before May 8. The pre-registration fee of $15 for each runner or walker also can be sent to the same address before May 8 to guarantee an event T-shirt. (Those pre-registering should indicate T-shirt size.)
