Prestige chosen over practicality

The decision to build the Vigo County central pool facility was made with prestige in mind, but not the students in three high schools and their parents.

If the students in the high schools and their parents had come first, each high school pool would have been replaced by another pool of the same 25-yard length it has now, exactly the same footprint. Then the convenience and benefits of swim lessons for a great many students would have been continued at each school.

Various recreational community activities would have continued in the three pools after hours, as they do now. But the authorities decided on prestige, so varsity swimmers and their parents will face two round trips a day for practice in the central facility — with the fuel usage, the stress of traffic, the vehicle wear and tear.

It may have been said that upgrading each pool was too expensive. But an exact replacement, not upgrading, would be the least expensive, and would best serve Vigo students and their parents.

Tea partiers love country, freedom

Well, I see that the number two in the Tribune-Star trio got another letter printed and as always you got off some more hot air, and as always you can say anything you want to say and the Tribune-Star will print it, unlike some of us who might get one or two letters a year printed.

As always, you put down the tea party, an organization of grassroots Americans who love their country, love their Constitution and their freedom.

To letterwriter John Garner — please get it right, the tea party percentage who want to save America is most likely above 70 percent, and as for the government shutdown, your president and his jack-booted cohorts, with Nazi tactics, shut the government down. Mr. Garner, if you had any common sense, you should be able to see what they are doing to our beloved country. Everything your president does just costs more. Plant closings and more jobs lost are hurting all Americans.

Your president has borrowed trillions from China and other countries (and wants to get more) — trillions that even your grandchildren won’t be able to pay back. How much of America does China own? And the Nobamacare will destroy America from within, something your president wants to do, just like his father brainwashed him to do.

The private industry cannot provide any jobs because your president refuses to sign any legislation so private industry can hire again. And as far as offshore accounts, there are as many Democrats and Republicans that have them. Be careful what you ask for because you might get it and get kicked down the road in the next election because of the Democrats’ hateful rhetoric.

You know, Mr. Garner, I agree with a lot of what you have written and you in no way sound like a stupid man to me and it is your God-given right to express your beliefs. I cannot for the life of me understand why Obama is going the route he is going when he could have been America’s greatest first black president ever. Instead he chose to continue to destroy America from within (look at his approval rating).

I will close and hope the Tribune-Star prints this letter (but they will most likely not).

Same old clowns

“… government of the people, by the people and for the people shall not perish from the earth.”

Does that sound familiar to anybody? It has long since perished. If the word “people” were replaced by the word “rich,” it would be more accurate today.

“The people” (us) have little or no say in our present-day government. We are being dictated to by a bunch of clowns who have no regard for our welfare or rights. But “we the people” keep electing and even re-electing these jerks. Through apathy, in many cases, and ignorance in many others, we are just as responsible as those “we” put into office.

More and more Americans are becoming aware of our situation every day, but obviously not enough. Wake up, America.
