TERRE HAUTE —

Great athletics at West Vigo

I would like to take this opportunity to brag on the good things happening in athletics at West Vigo High School.

In September, the West Vigo Athletic Booster Club held its annual golf outing at Hulman Link’s golf course to help raise funds for the athletic program and teams. Close to 100 golfers participated and well over 40 hole sponsors made donations towards the event. As always, the golf outing was a huge success and everyone is looking forward to next year’s event. Special thanks to John Barton for all his hard work with the golf outing.

On Nov. 2, the West Vigo Athletic Hall of Fame held its second annual induction ceremony in which the selection committee inducted five individuals and two teams into the West Vigo Athletic Hall of Fame. Those individual inductees included Gary Rollings, Dr. Tom Mathias, Brenda Whitesell, Gary Oxford and Pandy (Long) Sinish. Also inducted were the 1970 Cross Country team and 1971 Football team. There were over 225 in attendance for the dinner and ceremony in the Jim Mann Green Dome. Next year’s ceremony will take place on Nov. 1. Thanks to Terre Haute Savings Bank for sponsoring the event.

Lastly, recently West Vigo hosted the Terre Haute Savings Bank Tip-Off Classic girls’ basketball tournament. The tournament included teams from Owen Valley, North Central, South Vermillion, Northview, Greencastle, T.H. North, T.H. South and West Vigo.

Congratulations to Terre Haute North Lady Patriots for winning this year’s tournament and Terre Haute Saving Bank for their sponsorship. Good luck to all the athletes on a great year in sports.
