Holding out hope for more stability

Every American has a huge choice to make in November. Do we continue on a carefully planned return to prosperity or jump on the high-roller train of the Republicans?

Evidently selective memory can wipe out the debacle created when Bush-Cheney ran the economy. In an eight-year span, they took us from surplus to super debt and the brink of collapse of the American economy. America survived as a result of major innovation that prevented our banking and automobile industry from ruin that would have left our economy devastated. The stimulus worked.

How many of us can quote accurately from the national health plan? I have very small knowledge of all the costs and benefits of this plan, but I see hope in the thought some insurance giant can’t refuse to pay for someone’s needed care to make their bottom line look better or to give their CEO a $300 million annual bonus. How much more effective would this be with a Congress that worked through issues to improve the system?

The people charged with the purpose of representing us all have sold out. They put their private interests above all else. Congress is a nonfunctional entity that has no conscience in a continuing effort to remove all benefits from the middle class and provide more loopholes for the wealthy. Can you guess who will bear the burden of their success?

The image of Romney, Ryan and Boehner in the oval office conspiring to undo all the gains in prosperity for average Americans as they enrich further their wealthy supporters is and should be horrifying. If you want to participate in trickle down, you should move to Mexico or China.

How prosperous would we be if Congress had extended the hand of compromise and solved some the issues we face?

No president has had such a solitary term with such a lack of support from Congress in the face of the worst economic trouble since the Great Depression. It is unfortunate that every presidential effort was met with absolute disregard for the future of our country. Now is the time to let Congress and industry know that the path of shipping jobs overseas and unregulated banking are unacceptable.

Why any president would want a second term after being treated with so little respect by Congress and industry is a mystery. Most would exit without hesitation.

The president must feel that with the support of the American people he can continue to make progress. I admire his enthusiasm.

To elect Romney-Ryan means the lobbyists and the racists have won. The wealthy will have made one more huge step to subjugating the general population to lower wages with no benefits and no future.

In any other country, there would be gathering in the street to protest how little Congress has done to bring us shared prosperity and a higher future. They need to be taken down a notch with their automatic raises and cushy retirement. How can we accomplish this?

For all the lies and distortions that have been offered by all politicians, I will try to sort out some hope and stability that will not leave my grandchildren at the mercy of some wealthy politician we had the misfortune to elect. God bless America
