Terre Haute takes care of their own

I am a longtime friend of Mike Saylor. I was at the benefit event in Terre Haute for Mike last Friday. I was very impressed by the people from South High School and the community of Terre Haute.

There was plenty of love in the gymnasium that night and I know the Saylor family was encouraged to see so much support for Mike. I have seen Coach Saylor pour out his heart over the years and he has helped many people in Terre Haute and beyond. He has always been a giving person and now to see the people of Terre Haute be there in his time of need was extremely moving and something I will never forget.

Mike is a competitor and he will fight hard to beat this cancer. The encouragement that he received from the South Vigo High School family and many others from the community will go along way in his battle. I know that this was not just a one-night event and that the good people of Terre Haute will be there for the Saylor family in the future too.

You are a tremendous example of what is good about humanity. Keep it up and God bless the Saylor family and the people of Terre Haute.

Postal contract causes concern

I recently learned that the United States has entered into a contract with one firm to sell 56 buildings that currently house U.S. post offices. The government has decided that it no longer needs these buildings (many of which are located on prime land in towns and cities across the country).

The sale of these properties will bring in billions of dollars and, with that, millions of dollars in commissions for the one company that is in charge of handling the sale and negotiation of the new leases.

What makes this such a matter of concern to me is that the company that the government has contracted with to conduct the sales (and the corresponding leases for the new locations of the displaced post offices) is owned by Richard Blum.

What? Didn’t that name mean anything to you? Maybe I should rephrase and say that the person who owns the company that is solely in charge of this multimillion-dollar transaction is Richard Blum, investment banker and husband of Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Food price rise not appreciated

Thank you, food industry, for the increase in food prices. My wife and I used to spend half as much for groceries as we do now.

We used to buy whatever we wanted when the prices were lower. Now we buy only what we need and not what we want.
