Sound choice for county judge

John Kesler II is running for Vigo County judge in this election, and I’m proud to say that he has been an important part of my life since I was very young. John’s son and I have been lifelong friends and remain close to this day.

John, along with my dad, helped coach youth basketball for many years. Being from a small town, we competed in many of the local facilities here in Vigo County. Through these experiences, we were able to meet many of our fellow athletes. As we got older, John continued to coach, and Kesler & Kesler Law sponsored our AAU team. John would load up the team and take us all around our beautiful state. Traveling throughout the state and competing at the highest levels provided me with experiences that benefited me beyond the court as well.

After high school, John’s son and I headed off to Indiana University in Bloomington, where we were roommates. John and his wife, Diane, would travel to Bloomington to visit Trey, his son. Since we were away for school, I would have understood them wanting to spend time catching up with Trey, but they always invited me along. A warm meal and friendly company are always appreciated by a young man on a college budget. John and Diane would be sure to check our stock of groceries before leaving as well.

As college wrapped up, it was time for me to start my career. With no real professional experience at the time, it was important I have good references that could attest to my character. John was one of the people I asked to provide a reference for me. He didn’t hesitate to offer his time to speak with potential future employers. I can’t thank him enough for any part he played in my success.

Now with my own family, John has continued to be helpful. We have reached out to him for legal advice locally in Vigo County at times. I also am able to stay in touch with his son, and my close friend, who is now carrying on the Kesler family legal tradition as a third generation attorney.

I am very appreciative of the role John has played in my life and hope that the people of Vigo County are able to experience his caring professionalism and dedication to community as I have. By electing John A. Kesler II, judge, you will be electing someone who has raised three children in Vigo County and is committed to making this a better place to live.

Elect for experience in our legal system. Elect for knowledge of our legal system. Elect John A. Kesler II Vigo County judge.

Giving your car the care it needs

Many vehicles were neglected during the recent brutal winter months and could use a little extra care by now. The Car Care Council recommends that motorists follow three simple steps during National Car Care Month in April to get vehicles ready for the spring and summer driving season.

Keep your vehicle clean. Regular car washes and waxes protect the paint and body of your car from corrosive debris. In parts of the country where salt is used on the roads, regularly washing is especially important.

Keep your car on schedule. Every vehicle has a manufacturer recommended maintenance schedule. Whether you choose to do your own maintenance or patronize a local repair shop, following a routine service schedule is essential to keeping your car in safe and dependable working order.

Keep an eye on the little things. Your windshield wipers aren’t cleaning as well as they should? Your gas tank is missing its cap? There’s a warning light on your dashboard? When you see your car needs attention, don’t delay. Repairing small things now can help avoid more costly problems down the road and add years of useful vehicle life.

The Car Care Council offers many free tools on its website,, to help consumers drive smart, save money and be car care aware, including the popular 60-page Car Care Guide,, and a custom service schedule and email reminder service, www.carcare. org/car-care-service-schedules/

Park restrooms should be open

Why are the neighborhood park restrooms no longer open in the spring and summer months?

As a former supervisor for the Terre Haute Park Department, one of my daily duties was to open and close these facilities. These restrooms were utilized a great deal by day cares and schools. If the taxpayers make up the majority of the Park Department budget, why should they not have the privilege of these restrooms?
