Special march of remembrance set for Sunday

We in the Wabash Valley have the opportunity to boldly stand with Israel and the Jewish people to remember, honor and bless those who perished and those who survived the atrocities of the Holocaust.

We have the privilege to bring a little bit of healing, a small amount of relief, a touch of love and encouragement and a promise to those who suffered and their posterity that “Never Again” will they stand alone.

Let us not look back, as our fathers did, regretfully and ashamed that they were silent when the Nazis threatened, complacent when the Nazis perused the vile hatred that had enveloped their hearts, and unmoved as the atrocities became known. Let us not be moved again to action because of guilt and shame, but from a desire for righteousness, justice and truth to prevail in this world.

The United States Senate Chaplain, Peter Marshall, offered this prayer on April 18, 1947.

“Give to us clear vision that we may know where to stand and what to stand for — because unless we stand for something, we shall fall for anything.”

If only these words of understanding and discernment would have been spoken 10 years earlier.

Yom HaShoah, Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day, is held on April 7, thus The March of Remembrance Service will be held on April 7 at 3 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church, which is located at 3050 E. Davis Drive, Terre Haute. Walter Sommers, a Holocaust survivor, will speak about the Holocaust, what led to the Holocaust and much more.

A prayer walk for Israel, the Jewish people, and the Holocaust survivors will follow the March of Remembrance service for those who wish to participate. Please come and join us for this important event.
