READERS' FORUM: Feb. 27, 2014

Unfair criticism of electric utility

It is too bad that a person with the responsibility that the Rev. Timothy Fagg has would be so far off base with his letter to the Readers’ Forum on Monday, Feb. 17, when he wrote about the electric utilities, particularly Duke Energy. Not only do they not “steal” from you or from their other customers, they provide an excellent service and they participate actively in the communities in which they live.

May I suggest that the Rev. Fagg get the facts before spouting off in political terms rather than the truth.

I was in the electric utility business all of my career, but never in the state of Indiana. I retired as the president of an electric utility company far, far from Terre Haute so I do know how the system works. We are very lucky to live in the United States. The electric utilities in the state of Indiana have a contract or a franchise with the state of Indiana. Their electric rates and level of service are controlled by the public utility commission.

So, please, Rev. Fagg, do not slam our local electric utility, Duke Energy, who gives us very good service at the best rates allowed by the state of Indiana.
