More ignorance about tea party

This letter is in response to John Garner’s letter on Nov. 5.

Once again, Mr. Garner has displayed his ignorance regarding the tea party. He suggests the so called “my way or the highway” attitude of the tea party “deprives the electorate of a voice in government.” The tea party, Mr. Garner, is the electorate. If you want to discuss “my way or the highway” I suggest you consider Sen. Harry Reid’s attitude recently, in fact, almost always.

Mr. Garner likes to refer to the tea party as “anarchist, dictators and oppressive.” The difference of him using these words and the Democratic Party leadership using them is that he does so out of ignorance, they do it out of fear.

The tea party began during the Bush administration. People began to realize that our government was and had been for some time on a destructive spending spree. They saw that our government had grown so large it was out of control and unaccountable. They realized that our government was becoming more and more intrusive. The tea party, people just like you and me, knew something had to change so the tea party movement was born.

People in power for a long time getting everything they want don’t like change. The prospect of losing that power causes them to lash out in every way they can to discredit the tea party, which in my view, is lashing out at the American people.

Better tribute needed for vets

I was among one of those who lined Wabash Avenue yesterday to watch the Veterans Day Parade. I was there to pay homage to those who have served our country and also to see my son proudly march in uniform with his JROTC.

My eyes were misty and my heart full of gratitude. I was also ashamed. Ashamed to see so few participate in the parade or watch its passing. Where were the crowds to see the parade and the people to participate? Why were there not more policemen and firemen involved? As the largest city between Indianapolis and St. Louis can we not put on a better display of tribute?

The city will hire consults for its consultants. Can we not hire a consultant in order to have a better parade? To the business owner, could you not close for one hour and encourage your employees and customers to enjoy the parade? This must be improved upon.

Thank you to those who did come (and to those that wanted to be there but couldn’t be) and also to those who were involved in the parade. To those that could have been there and should have been there but weren’t, shame on you. We must not be apathetic to the sacrifice of others, particularly when we are the beneficiaries.
