Welcome to life in gun-free zones

In response to recent letters from Earl Beal:

Time and time again I read your narrow-minded viewpoints of things going on in today’s society, and I am sickened by your lack of common sense. You can throw out your insults of the NRA and those of us who support and defend the once great Constitution of these no longer United States.

Thanks to people like you and the current administration, this country is the laughing stock of the world. Oops, did I cross a red line in the sand? Without spending hours at the computer typing a letter that you probably won’t read, I will get right to the point. The one thing that you fail to realize is that these mass shootings are partly your fault.

“Why,” you ask. Because it’s people like you who are pushing for the one thing that allows these shootings to continue. What is the one thing that 95 percent of these shootings have in common? These mass shootings take place in gun-free zones. Look at all of the places that they have happened, all areas that a law-abiding citizen is not allowed to defend themselves.

Guess what, here is the one thing that criminals know, people who obey the law won’t have a personal defense weapon in a gun-free zone. So if a criminal is thinking out loud, let’s see, I want to go do harm to people, should I go to a police station? No, there are guns there. How about a gun store? No, not a good idea. How about a gun-free zone? Yes, no one will shoot back at me there.

Until you people wake up from your fairy tale world and realize that the only way to end this is to allow us to defend ourselves against people who don’t obey the law in the first place, the blood is on your hands, not the Second Amendment.
