Jr. Achievement honors inductees
On April 24, Junior Achievement of the Wabash Valley held its annual Hall of Fame dinner to celebrate 50 years of service to the Wabash Valley. The Ohio Building provided a great facility for the event. James Twitchell, Union Hospital, served as our emcee for the night.
The 2014 Hall of Fame Inductees included: Mel Burks, Hamilton Center/Vigo County School Board of Trustees — Administrative Educator; Sheri Parker Reed/Lost Creek Elementary — Faculty Educator; Vicki Barrett/Terre Haute Savings Bank — Female Volunteer; Keith Lee/Clabber Girl Corp. — Male Volunteer; Rob Lundstrom/Indiana Theatre — Business Person; Jeanette Winchester/Simple to Elegant — Entrepreneur; and Jane Mills/Lamar — Community Champion.
We’d like to recognize Terre Haute Savings Bank as our corporate sponsor for the evening.
Thanks also to Baesler’s Market, Distributors Terminal, Duke Energy, Garmong Development Co., Indiana American Water Co., Lamar, Old National Bank, Old National Insurance and The Ohio Building for their sponsorships.
We appreciate the many businesses and individuals who provided items for the silent and live auctions.
For every dollar raised in the community, JAWV is able to invest 77 cents directly into classroom programs.
JAWV serves an eight-county area, including Vigo, Clay, Sullivan, Vermillion, and Parke counties in Indiana, and Edgar, Crawford and Clark counties in Illinois. JAWV reached more than 4,500 students during the last school year, utilizing the talent of 130 classroom volunteers.
We appreciate the continued community support for Junior Achievement of the Wabash Valley as we empower young people to own their economic success.

Islam not help to same standards
In his column in the May 6 online edition of the Tribune-Star, Ronn Mott refers to Donald Sterling, owner of the Clippers (the basketball team), as an “old fool” for his remarks about black people that are offensive to most Americans.
Yasir Qadhi is an Imam, and the Dean of Academic Affairs at the Al-Maghrib Institute. He is a hafiz (has memorized the Qur’an) and he has an M.A. in the Islamic Creed and a B.A. in Islamic Sciences from Islamic University of Medina, as well as a master’s and a doctorate in Islamic Studies from Yale. Yasir Qadhi made the following comment:
“Jews and Christians are filthy, their lives and property can be taken in Jihad by the Muslims”
Donald Sterling has been punished by the NBA. Where is the condemnation of Yasir Qadhi by Muslims and the liberal apologists for Islam?
